W&H declares Drupa 2008 and In-house EXPO a great success
Three revolutionary new printing presses demonstrated
for the first time to the public
LINCOLN, RI, July 2008 – Windmoeller & Hoelscher recently completed the two-week show at Drupa,
the third of three major exhibitions held in Düsseldorf within an 8-months period. "Drupa 2008 was again a very important trade event for W&H. During the show, we had the opportunity to demonstrate three
new revolutionary press designs to printing companies from around the world," said Dr. Juergen Vutz, Managing Director and CEO of Windmoeller & Hoelscher. "The
MIRAFLEX and VISTAFLEX have significantly advanced the state of the art for flexographic
printing machines and the HELIOSTAR S is
the most productive gravure machine available on the market today. W&H was the only company at the show with a gravure machine in operation, and it attracted a great deal of attention".
Peter Steinbeck, W&H’s Co-Managing Director, went on to say that "over 1,100 customers from 80 countries came by our booth to see the new equipment and to discuss upcoming projects. The discussions were not limited to printing but included W&H’s entire product line. I was very pleased to
see all of the interest in our machines, even in light of the worsening economic conditions for many of
our customers."
One of W&H’s new press designs, the MIRAFLEX C, celebrated it’s world premiere
a month earlier at Interpack and was fully operational during Drupa. Several of these machines were
sold during the show to companies in eastern and western Europe. The MIRAFLEX C was
equipped
with 8 printing decks and EASY-SET/EASY-REG (W&H’s patented automatic impression setting and registration system). The CI press was demonstrated several times a day and visitors were able to see how efficiently the machine could be changed over between production runs. Attendees were amazed
at how quickly the press could be prepared for the next job and the small amount of waste that was generated during start-up.
The HELIOSTAR S press also had a successful debut with several machines being sold
during the show. The newly developed rotogravure press can be fitted with up to 12
printing stations and achieves speeds up to 1,300 fpm (400 m/minute). The press design
includes capabilities to print on a wide variety of materials and meets the requirements
for a broad range of printing applications. The HELIOSTAR provides unparalleled print
quality and is configured for fast job changeover and optimum flexibility. Visitors
to Drupa were able to witness for themselves the outstanding features of this machine
during
the several demonstrations that were held daily.
In conjunction with the show, W&H held an in-house EXPO in Lengerich. "More than 500 people from 43 countries attended the open house," said Peter Steinbeck. "All of our presses were running and visitors were able to see why W&H is the world’s leading supplier of printing machines."
A highlight of the EXPO was the world premiere of W&H’s new VISTAFLEX C flexographic
sleeve press which features automatic make ready capability. The press is specially
designed for long repeat lengths and wide web applications running up to 2,600 fpm
(800 m/min). VISTA-PORT, the machine's automatic sleeve and anilox handling system
which organizes, arranges, and completes all actions for changeover was also very
well received. "The VISTAFLEX C can rightly claim to be unique in the marketplace
because of its amazingly short set-up times and outstanding output capabilities," explained Dr. Vutz.
The press ran at 3,300 fpm (1,000 m/min) and received spontaneous audience applause after the demonstration.
EASY-COL, W&H’s patented automatic ink formulation and metering system, was also demonstrated during the Expo. This newest member of the EASY family was developed with assistance from X-Rite
and Sun Chemical and allows the printer to match his inks to the specific requirements of the press notably faster and more precisely than previously possible. Repeated proof printing for satisfactory color matching is no longer necessary, reducing set-up time and waste generation.
Garant Machinenhandel GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary, shared the exhibition booth with W&H.
Garant presented its MATADOR NG flat and satchel machine used for making bread bags.
Dieter Schallenberg, Managing Director for Garant, was very pleased with the show
turnout and interest in their equipment.
Windmoeller & Hoelscher is a leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of flexographic and gravure printing presses, blown and cast film extrusion systems, multiwall equipment, plastic sack and bag making machines, as well as form-fill-seal machinery for the converting and packaging industry. |
