Eclipse Film Technologies Installs
a W&H MDO (Machine Direction Orientation) unit.
W&H’s industry reputation for innovative, high-quality
film production equipment results in
partnership with Eclipse for the
manufacture of its world class MDO unit.
LINCOLN, RI, September 2007 – Windmoeller & Hoelscher
Corporation announces the
installation of an MDO (Machine Direction
Orientation) unit by Eclipse Film Technologies of
Cincinnati, OH. The
MDO machine has been installed in Eclipse’s 26,000 sq. ft.
production
site in Cincinnati, OH and is fully operational.
Eclipse Film Technologies specializes solely in the machine direction
orientation of polymer films
and utilizes a full range of substrates
such as olefins, high barrier webs, and many others.
"Eclipse’s production facility consists of commercial
scale MDO equipment that is unique to the
industry,” states
Ryan Breese, Technical Director. “Eclipse does not
have extrusion capabilities
such as cast or blown film. Decoupling
the orientation and extrusion steps provides our business
an unprecedented
amount of process flexibility. Eclipse will source any type
of film from any supplier
and offer products that meet the needs
of numerous marketplaces."
Eclipse Film Technologies chose W&H as a partner for manufacturing
their world class MDO unit
based heavily on W&H’s reputation
within the industry for designing, manufacturing and servicing innovative,
high-quality film production equipment. Eclipse and W&H
also consulted with Eric Hatfield, Vice President of MDO Engineering
and an MDO industry expert, in the design and manufacture of
this unique MDO unit.
With its new MDO capacity, Eclipse will produce films for the food
and medical industries that offer
cost savings benefits, as well
as improved stiffness, strength, optics, and barrier properties. These
enhancements can be leveraged by converters, packaging engineers,
brand owners-basically
anyone interested in source reduction
and product improvement.
"Our customers will benefit from our expertise to reduce product
costs, rapid product design
and improved product quality, all of
which retain market share,” explains Sara Porter, Business
Development Manager. “Our unique development capabilities
will help evaluate how the end-user
will use the product, as well
as “pre-cycling” (reducing the amount of material that
is sent to recyclers
or landfills) in this age of environmentally
conscious consumers."
