Nelmar Security Packaging Installs 3-layer VAREX Blown Film
Extrusion Line
Achievement translates to huge savings in resin costs for barrier
film processors.
LINCOLN, RI, September 2006 – Windmoeller & Hoelscher
Corporation announces that first time customer Nelmar Security Packaging
Systems Inc. of Montreal, Quebec, Canada has begun installation
of a 3-layer VAREX blown film extrusion line. The line will
commence operation on November 1st at the company’s new 140,000
sq. ft. (13,000 m²) Montreal production facility.
Nelmar Security Packaging manufactures a patented tamper-evident system
for the safe transfer of currency, checks and other valuables. The
company has been in operation since 1984 and provides security-packaging
products to banks, retailers, and armored car companies under the trademark
names SECUR-PAK™, EUROSAFE™, and FRAUDSTOPPER™.
While currently operating twenty bag making machines and printing equipment
at its 140,000 square
foot (13,000 m²) production facility, the
VAREX purchase represents Nelmar’s first extrusion line.
“We felt that we were best suited to achieve our goals by becoming
vertically integrated and producing
film in our own facility,” states
Neil Freder, Nelmar’s President. “It became apparent to
us that in order
to be the most cost efficient producer of our products,
we would need to have greater consistency in the films we were using.
Controlling the process [in-house] enables us to use and maintain the
best resins without incurring change without notification.”
According to Freder, the company reviewed many extrusion products,
but ultimately found W&H’s
VAREX to be the line best
suited for its application in all categories. “We decided on
the W&H line
due to many factors,” he explains, “homogeneity
of the film produced with our recipe was one, and the maximum output
guarantees enable us to achieve the greatest return on our investment
with this line.”
The 3-layer VAREX blown film extrusion line installed at Nelmar
Security Packaging has a working
width of 71” (1800 mm) and features
the OPTIFIL P3
gauge profile control system for high-output lines. The P3 is a combination
of the OPTIFIL P2
automatic die and MULTICOOL D
dual air ring system.
The VAREX line is also equipped with W&H’s
FILMATIC S dual surface winder installed in a face-to-face configuration
with reverse winding capability.
